The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Andreas Johnsson to a one-year contract, it was announced today by President of Hockey Operations Kyle Dubas.

The contract runs through the 2023-24 season and carries an average annual value of $800,000.

Johnsson, 28, is coming off of a 2022-23 campaign split between the New Jersey Devils and San Jose Sharks where he appeared in 13 NHL games and recorded three assists. He also suited up for 36 games at the American Hockey League level with the Utica Comets, where he notched nine goals, 21 assists and 30 points in 36 games. His 0.83 points-per-game average with Utica ranked second on the team.

The 5-foot-10, 195-pound forward has played parts of six seasons in the NHL split between New Jersey, San Jose and the Toronto Maple Leafs. He's recorded 116 points (48G-68A) in 259 career regular season games at the NHL level, and has also appeared in 14 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, where he's picked up two goals, four assists and six points. The left-handed shooting Johnsson's best season came during his rookie campaign in 2018-19, where he set career highs across the board in games played (73), goals (20), assists (23), points (43) and plus/minus (+14).

Johnsson has also spent parts of four seasons at the AHL level with Utica and the Toronto Marlies, where he's suited up for 165 career regular-season games and picked up 131 points (55G-76A). He won the Calder Cup with Toronto in 2017-18 and was named AHL Playoff MVP after finishing the postseason first in the AHL in assists (14) and points (24).

Prior to his time in North America, the native of Gavle, Sweden played three seasons with Frolunda HC of the SHL, Sweden's top professional league, where he accumulated 104 points (57G-47A) in 158 regular-season games and helped Frolunda win the SHL Championship in 2016. He also represented Sweden at the 2014 World Junior Championship, helping his country take home a silver medal.

Johnsson was originally drafted by Toronto in the seventh round (202nd overall) in the 2013 NHL Draft.
