by Pittsburgh Penguins @penguins / Media Release

The Pittsburgh Penguins officially drop the puck on the 2019-20 season by opening training camp on Friday, September 13 at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township, Pa.

All practices at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex will be free of charge and open to the public.

General manager Jim Rutherford and his staff have invited 54 players to camp, including 31 forwards, 17 defensemen, and six goaltenders. On the roster are 24 players who played at least one game with Pittsburgh last year (click here to view the complete camp roster).

Players will take the ice in Cranberry for the first time on Friday, September 13 at 9:00 AM, with Teams 1 and 2 practicing until 9:45 AM, then scrimmaging from 10:00-10:45 AM. Team 3 will have two practice sessions, the first one at 11:30 AM and the second beginning at 12:45 PM.

Headlining head coach Mike Sullivan's roster is captain Sidney Crosby, set to begin his 15th NHL season and coming off a 100-point (35G-65A) campaign; Jake Guentzel, who led the Penguins with 40 goals last season, and veterans Evgeni Malkin, one of 31 players in the NHL to average one point per-game in '18-19, and Kris Letang, who finished tied for eighth in the NHL in points (56) among defensemen while being named to the NHL All-Star Game in San Jose.

For the first time, Penguins fans will get a look at offseason additions in forwards Alex Galchenyuk, acquired from Arizona, Dominik Kahun, acquired from Chicago, and July 1st signee Brandon Tanev.

Also invited to camp are Pittsburgh's top two selections in the 2019 NHL Draft, forwards Sam Poulin, 18, (Round 1 - 21st overall) and Nathan Legare, 18, (Round 3 - 74th overall).

After three days of practices, the Penguins will hit the ice for preseason action with a game against the Buffalo Sabres on Monday, September 16 at 7:00 PM on the campus of Penn State University. The Penguins will play three home games and two on the road to cap off their six-game preseason slate.

All six preseason games can be heard on the Penguins' official flagship radio station, 105.9 'The X'. Additionally, three games will be shown on the Penguins TV home, AT&T SportsNet, September 19 vs. Columbus, September 21 at Columbus, and September 28 vs. Buffalo.
