David Peart, the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Senior VP of Sales and Service, received a national award for innovation at the recent Sports and Entertainment Alliance in Technology (SEAT) Conference in Miami. Peart was honored by a panel of industry peers for innovation in Sponsorship Sales – specifically for the team’s “PensPoints” fan reward program.
The InStadium Experience Innovation Awards singled out team executives who “found new ways to leverage technology, new media and data to drive long-term team value for their sports franchise.” Awards were presented in five categories: Information Technology, Digital Media, Marketing, Game Presentation and Sponsorship Sales.
Nominations were open to any sports team executive in the U.S. and Canada. The winners and runnersup represented teams in the NBA, MLB, NHL, MLS and NCAA.
“I accept this award on behalf of everyone at the Pittsburgh Penguins,” Peart said. “It’s a tribute to our staff for all of their hard work and dedication, and to our leadership for the way they inspire us to keep improving. And, of course, the success of the PensPoints program would not be possible without our fans, whose passion for the Penguins knows no bounds.”
PensPoints is the first mobile app-based loyalty platform in sports and was created in collaboration with Pittsburgh-based Loyaltree. It has nearly 90,000 members.
Winners of the InStadium Experience Innovation Awards were:
•Information Technology – Asim Pasha, Sporting Kansas City
•Digital Media – Kevin Cote, Kenny Lauer, Golden State Warriors
•Marketing – Mary Pink, Iowa State University
•Game Presentation – Larry Blocker, Miami Marlins
