The game will be the fourth meeting of the season for the Devils and Penguins (15-13-6), who are coming off a four-day holiday break. The team remains just five points behind New Jersey, which leads the Atlantic Division with a 19-13-3 record and 41 points.
Also, the contest begins a busy week for the Penguins. They play three games in a four-day span to close out the calendar year.
Sidney Crosby enters the game with a 10-game points steak (7+16), which matches a career-high he established last season during his rookie campaign. The 19-year-old maintains his spot atop the NHL scoring list with 55 points (17+38). He leads the league in assists as well and is fifth in plus/minus at plus-18.
Penguins center Evgeni Malkin tops all NHL rookies in scoring with 33 points (17+16) in 30 games. Los Angeles forward Anze Kopitar is second with 32 points (11+21) in 37 games.
The Penguins return home Wednesday night to take on Atlanta at Mellon Arena.
