The Penguins (17-15-6) have won their last two games, while Buffalo (29-8-3) maintains the top record in the Eastern Conference. This contest is the first in a span for the Penguins in which they play four of their next five games on the road.
Sidney Crosby scored two goals and added an assist in Pittsburgh’s 3-0 win over Carolina on Tuesday. That boosted his NHL-leading points total to 61 (19+42). Atlanta’s Marian Hossa is second with 56 points (24+32). However, he has played seven more games (42) than Crosby (35).
Evgeni Malkin continues to lead all NHL rookies in scoring with 37 points (18+19) in 34 games. Los Angeles forward Anze Kopitar is second with 35 points (11+24) in 42 games.
The Penguins received bad news when it was revealed Nils Ekman is out of the lineup indefinitely. Ekman suffered a dislocated left elbow in the Penguins’ 4-1 home win over Toronto on Dec. 29. A recent MRI confirmed internal damage, which will keep Ekman off the ice indefinitely. He has 15 points (6+9) in 32 games for the Penguins this year.
The Penguins return home Sunday to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning. All fans in attendance will receive an FSN Pittsburgh Evgeni Malkin bobblehead doll.
