Penguins forward Mike Zigomanis was placed on injured reserve.
Zigomanis has been sidelined with an undisclosed injury he suffered Dec. 3 at the New York Rangers. He missed the team's past 15 games and hasn't practiced or skated in over a month. The IR designation will keep him out for at least another week but it isn't clear when he'll be able to get back on the ice or how far away he is from playing.
Zigomanis was Pittsburgh's best faceoff man, winning 62.9 percent of his draws, and was a valuable contributor on penalty kills. He also added two goals and four assists for six points in 22 games after the Penguins acquired him from Phoenix in a trade on Oct. 9.>
The Penguins did get one of their injured players back Saturday in their 6-1 loss to Florida. Forward Tyler Kennedy
, who suffered a knee injury in the Dec. 3 game, returned to action after missing 14 contests.
"It feels pretty good," Kennedy said. "It's still a little sore and I'll have to fight through it but I want to play."
Kennedy logged over 13 minutes of ice time on 20 shifts and registered three shots on goal.
"It felt pretty good," Kennedy said of his return. "It's going to take time for me to get my legs back. I'm just happy to be out there."Archive
