PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed center Mario Lemieux, it was announced today by General Manager Craig Patrick.  In accordance with club policy, terms of the contract were not released.

Lemeiux, 39, ranks eighth on the NHL all-time goal-scoring list, tenth on the NHL all-time assists list and seventh on the NHL all-time points list.

Lemieux, the Penguins’ captain, has won six NHL scoring titles, three Hart Trophy’s as the league’s most valuable player and two Conn Smythe Trophy’s as the league’s playoff most valuable player.

Lemieux enters his 17th NHL season as the Penguins’ all-time leader in goals (683), assists (1, 018), points (1,701), power-play goals (223), short-handed goals (48), shots (3,556) and games played (889).

The 6-4 and 230-pound native of Montreal, Quebec was the Penguins’ first round selection (1st overall) of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft.
