The Pittsburgh Penguins signed assistant coaches Andre Savard and Mike Yeo to one-year contract extensions through the 2008-09 season, while extending their relationship with goaltending coach Gilles Meloche, signing him to a new two-year contract, it was announced Wednesday by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero.

Savard will begin his second season with the Penguins in 2007-08. Prior to joining the club, he spent six seasons with the Montreal Canadiens organization. Savard first joined Montreal in July, 2000 when he was named Director of Hockey Personnel. He was named General Manager of the team on November 20th, 2000 and held that position through the 2002-03 season. During the next three seasons, Savard served as the Assistant General Manager of the Canadiens while also holding the position of General Manager of the Hamilton Bulldogs, the Canadiens’ affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Savard spent five seasons with the Ottawa Senators, serving as head scout for the first four seasons and assistant coach to Jacques Martin for one season. Prior to his time in Ottawa, Savard spent 10 seasons with the Quebec Nordiques and held several different positions during his tenure. He was named head coach in 1987 becoming the first former Nordiques player named to that post. Savard spent 12 seasons in the NHL as a player scoring 482 points (211 goals, 271 assists) in 790 career games.

Yeo begins his second full season with the Penguins. He originally was promoted to the club on December 15th, 2005 after serving as an assistant coach with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for nearly six seasons. Yeo was named the first assistant coach in team history for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton after announcing his retirement as a player on Jan. 24, 2000. He helped guide the club to two conference championships as the team made two appearances (2001, 2004) in the AHL Calder Cup finals.
As a player, Yeo played 19 games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton during the 1999-00 season and scored four points (one goal, three assists) before injuries ended his playing career. Yeo also played five seasons with the Houston Aeros of the IHL scoring 127 points (55 goals, 72 assists) while collecting 511 penalty minutes in 317 games played. He served as the captain of the Aeros when the team captured the 1999 IHL Turner Cup championship.

Meloche enters his 19th season with the Penguins management team. He has worked as both amateur scout and goaltending coach for the club and held that dual role with the Penguins’ Stanley Cup champion teams in 1991 and 1992. Meloche coaches and evaluates goaltenders in both Pittsburgh and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Prior to his coaching career, Meloche played 18 seasons in the NHL as a goaltender. He spent his final three seasons with the Penguins after being acquired via trade in 1985. Meloche posted a 279-351-131 record in 788 NHL games and registered a 3.64 goals-against-average. He also appeared in 45 career playoff games and earned a 21-19 record.
