Penguins prospect and University of Nebraska-Omaha forward Jake Guentzel was named National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) rookie of the month for November.
Guentzel, who earlier in the month won a weekly NCHC rookie of the week award, ranked second (tied) on the Mavericks with seven points (1G-6A) in eight games in November.
The only teammate who outscored Guentzel last month was fellow Penguins prospect Josh Archibald, Pittsburgh’s 2011 sixth-round selection (174th overall), who had six goals, three assists and nine points in eight contests.
Guentzel, Pittsburgh’s third-round (77th overall) pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, had a pair of multiple-point games during the month – a goal and an assist on Nov. 1 at Denver and then a pair of assists against the Pioneers one night later.
The 5-foot-10, 157-pound Guentzel posted points in five of the eight games he played in November, helping the Mavericks to a 6-2 overall record.
For the season, Guentzel places fifth on the team with 10 points and third with eight assists in 14 games.
