The Pittsburgh Penguins have promoted Patrik Allvin (al-VEEN) to assistant general manager, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.

A native of Falun, Sweden, Allvin will be entering his 15th season in the Penguins' organization this fall, having originally joined the club as a European scout beginning with the 2006-07 campaign. Allvin most recently held the title of Pittsburgh's director of amateur scouting from 2017-20.
"Patrik has made a lot of contributions during his 14 years with Pittsburgh, and has proven to be a valuable asset for us," Rutherford said. "We've been impressed with his hockey knowledge and work ethic, and I look forward to working more closely with him."
In his new role, Allvin, 46, will assist Rutherford in all aspects of hockey operations. In addition to his new duties, he will continue to oversee the Penguins' amateur scouting efforts in both North America and Europe.
Before joining the Penguins, Allvin broke into the scouting ranks as a European scout for the Montreal Canadiens from 2002-06.
Allvin enjoyed a nine-year playing career between various leagues in North America and Europe. During his two-year stint in North America from 1995-97, the defenseman suited up for the Atlanta Knights and Quebec Rafales of the International Hockey League, as well as the Nashville Knights and Pensacola Ice Pilots of the ECHL. While in Europe, Allvin dressed with Arvika HC (1993-94), IK Vita Hasten (1994-95), Bodens IK (1997-98), Mora IK (1998-99, 2000-02), Leksands IF (1999-00) and Sparta Sarpsborg (2000-01).
Sam Ventura will assume the role of director of hockey operations and hockey research, working closely with Allvin on the salary cap, CBA and the overall hockey operations' budget. Erik Heasley will continue his role as manager of hockey operations and assistant general manager of the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins.
