Penguins Host Youth Hockey Scrimmages

by Staff Writer / Pittsburgh Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins gave ten local youth hockey teams the experience of a lifetime on Sunday, September 28 when they scrimmaged on the ice at Mellon Arena.  Four mite, four squirt and two pee wee teams played in the hour long games.  Teams were required to purchase a set number of group tickets to one of the Penguins’ pre-season home games to be eligible to participate in the event.

The games had the look and feel of a professional match including team introductions, in-game announcements, live Jumbotron video feed, instant replay footage and referees.

All games were entertaining, with the winners not being determined until the final minutes of play.

The participating teams and results were as follows:

Game 1
Amateur Penguins Mite AA were victorious over the Arctic Foxes Mite AA, 3-1
Game 2
Rink Rats Squirt A tied North Pittsburgh Squirt 4, 4-4
Game 3
Westmoreland Squirt A+ beat Beaver Squirt A+, 4-2
Game 4
North Pittsburgh Pee Wee A- over Beaver Pee Wee A-, 7-3
Game 5
Vipers Mite A- outscored MLHA Mite A-, 6-1
