The Pittsburgh Penguins are proud to announce that Sean Weber of West Allegheny and Cole Stayduhar of Shaler are the High School PIHL Players of the Month for November 2015.
The Penguins, along with Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, honor local high school hockey players each month for their commitment on and off the ice.
On Nov. 2, Weber – a forward – scored the game-winning goal in overtime to hand Montour their first loss of the season and keep his team’s undefeated streak alive.
“It was awesome,” Weber said of his game-winning goal. “We were really excited going into that game. It was really a team effort to come out with a win.”
Weber also had four-straight three-point games to start November. His final game of the month was highlighted by his second-straight hat trick, totaling five points in the 11-2 victory over Greensburg Salem. By all accounts, an award-winning athlete.
“I’m really honored,” Weber said of the Player of the Month award. “I have a great team and coaching staff behind me. They really helped to put me in the spotlight.”
Stayduhar, also a forward, had a hat trick, two assists and two power-play goals in an 8-6 victory over Pine-Richland on Nov. 16.
“My buddy and I both had hat tricks in that game,” Stayduhar said. “It was huge to get that win.”
Stayduhar tallied multiple points in all three games in the month of November. Scoring aside, being a team leader through his work ethic and character is ultimately what makes him a worthy award recipient.
“I do what I have to do,” Stayduhar said. “Show up to the game prepared and play the best I can – put everything I have into it. I have to thank the good Lord above. It’s a great honor.”
