With the holiday season approaching, Penguins fans brought much more than their cheering voices to the November 12 game against the New Jersey Devils. The Penguins organization partnered with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to raise money, food, and support for families in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Fans were encouraged to bring non-perishable food items or make monetary donations at Mellon Arena gates until the end of the first period. Along with their contributions, fans were entered into a raffle to win autographed memorabilia from the team. Thanks to the generosity of those in attendance, the 2009 Score Against Hunger Food Drive raised $3,280 and 2,347 pounds of food for families in need this holiday season.
The Penguins organization has sponsored a holiday food drive since 1992, and continues to partner with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank each year. All of the food collected at this year’s drive will be distributed throughout the city before the Thanksgiving holiday.
