Penguins captain Sidney Crosby
continued to climb the leaderboard in NHL All-Star Fan Balloting by receiving over 114,000 votes last week to move into second place among forwards with 320,865 cumulative votes.
Crosby, who ranks fourth among overall vote-getters, is one of four Penguins – Marc-Andre Fleury
, Kris Letang
and Evgeni Malkin
are the others – who place near the top of their respective positions.
Fleury, whose 14 victories ranks second in the NHL, sits in third place among goaltenders with 240,289 votes. He is just 8,123 votes behind Toronto’s James Reimer for the top spot.
Letang, the NHL’s fourth-highest (tied) scoring defenseman with 19 points (3G-16A), ranks third among blueliners with 277,094 votes. Letang trails Ottawa’s Erik Karlsson and Toronto’s Dion Phaneuf.
Malkin, Pittsburgh’s second-leading scorer with 24 points (9G-15A), ranks ninth among forwards with 157,773 votes. Last year Malkin joined Crosby, Fleury and Letang in giving the Penguins four of the six players chosen by the fans to participate in the 2011 All-Star Game.
