The Penguins dispatched two of the best regular season teams in the NHL® - the Columbus Blue Jackets and Washington Capitals - in the first two rounds of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Penguins battled back from a 2-1 series deficit in the Eastern Conference Final against the Ottawa Senators, with Chris Kuntiz's dramatic, double overtime clinching goal in Game 7 to close the series and seal their matchup with the Nashville Predators in the 2017 Stanley Cup® Final. The Penguins never trailed in the series against the Predators and ultimately claimed their second consecutive Stanley Cup® on June 11, 2017 after Patric Hornqvist's late goal in third period of Game 6 in Nashville! The Penguins became the first team since the Detroit Red Wings in the 1997 and 1998 to repeat as Stanley Cup® champions.
