Penguins Assistant Coach Mike Yeo will Miss Panthers Game

SUNRISE, Fla. -- Penguins assistant coach Mike Yeo will not be behind the bench for Pittsburgh when it takes on the Florida Panthers at BankAtlantic Center at 5 p.m. Yeo wasn’t feeling well after Saturday’s contest at Tampa Bay and was advised by doctors to skip the game and rest.
Pittsburgh head coach Dan Bylsma addressed the issue with the media this afternoon.
“He wasn’t feeling well during the game,” Bylsma said. “We had him checked out by doctors. The tests were fine after the game. Again this morning, he was not feeling well after waking up and doing some work. We sent him to the hospital for preliminary tests. Those results are normal.
“He wanted coach in the game but we thought it was important to continue to be monitored by doctors. We expect him to be released (Monday) morning from the hospital here and have him return to Pittsburgh then.”
Penguins assistant athletic trainer Scott Adams stayed behind with Yeo and will accompany him back to Pittsburgh.
Even though the incident began Saturday, the Penguins waited to release the information out of respect to Yeo and his family.
“He hadn’t had a chance to talk with his family,” Bylsma said. “Everything in terms of tests are normal. There is nothing more to say about how he’s feeling or his condition.
“If Mike was here he would try to convince me to let him coach the game,” Bylsma said. “He’s fine. He wants to be here. We’re not just about winning the hockey game here. There are other things to be concerned about. In this case it’s best to make sure he continues to be monitored throughout today and tonight.”
