The Pittsburgh Penguins have hired Jesse Green as director of performance & sport science and Jason Meehan as director of reconditioning, and promoted Brandon Mazza to performance therapist/athletic trainer, it was announced today by general manager Ron Hextall.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have hired Anthony Moore as the team's performance coach & sport scientist.
Green, 28, will oversee the performance arm of the Penguins' new Integrated Performance Team and will report to Teena Murray, Penguins' senior vice president of integrated performance. Green has spent the past four seasons with the Sacramento Kings of the NBA, climbing from Head of Sport Science in 2018 to Director of Performance and Sport Science the past two seasons. With the Kings, Green managed the implementation of data-informed team and player management strategies in the weight room and on the court, integrating a variety of sports technologies.
Prior to Sacramento, Green was a Performance Coach and Sport Scientist at the University of Louisville, where he embedded wearable technologies and managed data analysis and reporting for multiple Cardinals teams, playing a key role in the 2018 Final 4 appearance of the women's basketball program.
A native of Australia, Green spent the first part of his career working in the Australian Football League (AFL) with the Brisbane Lions. Between 2013-2017 he held strength coach, sports scientist and reconditioning specialist roles with the club. Green holds a Master's degree in High-Performance Sport (Australian Catholic University), and Bachelor's degree in Sports Science (Bond University). He is certified by the National Strength & Conditioning Association and the Australian Strength & Conditioning Association.
Meehan, 49, will oversee the reconditioning arm of the Performance Team, managing the return to performance programming for injured players. He will also report directly to Murray. He joins the Penguins from Canada Basketball and the University of Toronto.
An experienced athletic therapist, Meehan has worked closely with many of the NBA's top Canadian players, including Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City Thunder) and RJ Barrett (New York Knicks). Highly regarded for his performance therapy skills, Meehan is a certified athletic therapist, kinesiologist, massage therapist, and medical acupuncturist. Since 2011, Meehan has been the Head Therapist for Canada Basketball's Senior Men's National Team, and has been a leader within Canada Basketball's Integrated Performance Team, supporting the junior and cadet national team programs.
At the University of Toronto, Meehan was an athletic therapist since 2009. In that role, he managed a team of all aspects of medical care and reconditioning for multiple Varsity Blue teams.
Meehan and his wife Claudia have two children, daughter Jordan, 5, and son Logan, 3.
Mazza, 36, has been promoted to performance therapist/assistant athletic trainer after spending the last 12 years as the Penguins' associate athletic trainer.
From 2008-21, Mazza served as an athletic trainer for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he provided athletic training services for UPMC Sports Medicine, educated athletes on injury and preventative measures and provided strength and conditioning consultation for athletes. In addition, Mazza managed the athletic training staff and physician coverage for Pittsburgh Public Schools.
Mazza received a bachelor of science in athletic training from Duquesne University in 2008. He holds certifications in NASM Performance Enhancement and American Heart Association Basic Life Support and First Aid, and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association, Eastern Athletic Trainers' Association and Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers' Society.
Moore joins the WBS Penguins from the Leeds Rhinos Rugby League Club in Leeds, United Kingdom where he was a strength and conditioning coach while pursuing a PhD in sport and exercise physiology at Leeds Beckett University. He brings a diverse background as a strength coach and sport scientist with experience on three continents. He has worked previously at Humber College and York University in Canada, Chiefs Super Rugby in New Zealand, and the Rugby League in the UK.
Moore has also worked as a strength and conditioning coach in the private sector with O'Brien Sport and Milo Athletics, delivering off-season programming for OHL, AHL, KHL and NHL players.
Moore holds an undergraduate degree from York University (Canada), a Master's degree from Bond University (Australia), and is certified by both the National Strength & Conditioning Association, and the Australian Strength & Conditioning Association.
