The Penguins announced a partnership with the short-form video platform TikTok today, making it the first of its kind with a professional hockey team.
The Penguins and TikTok will be looking to grow and diversify the platform's ecosystem of sports content by creating a robust suite of innovative, engaging videos for Penguins fans and the TikTok community. The Penguins plan to significantly increase their presence on the platform, and are also partnering with TikTok to produce custom content.
"The Penguins are thrilled to work with such a rapidly-growing and innovative company, that is also a ton of fun for our fans," said vice president of digital, Andi Perelman. "We are excited for the opportunity to collaborate with some of TikTok's experts to find even more ways to grow on the platform."
The Penguins partnership will also be the first in which TikTok will work directly with a professional sports franchise to create custom content for advertising purposes outside of the platform. TikTok identified Pittsburgh for their successful social media presence within the sports industry. The partnership hopes to build on the team's digital footprint on TikTok, commitment to creative content, and cross-platform audience engagement rates.
