The Pittsburgh Penguins will wear their “Pittsburgh Gold” uniforms for all home games during the Stanley Cup playoffs and will distribute gold t-shirts and rally towels to create a “Gold Rush” at CONSOL Energy Center.
The “Pittsburgh Gold” design has been the Penguins’ third jersey for the past two seasons. It is virtually identical to the black-and-gold design the Penguins wore during the 1980s and in the Stanley Cup championship seasons of 1990-91 and 1991-92.
The Penguins open the playoffs on Wednesday when they host the New York Rangers at 8 p.m.
Pittsburgh Gold t-shirts and towels will be distributed to all fans attending each playoff home game.
The Penguins also will create a Fan Zone outside CONSOL Energy Center that will be activated three hours before all home playoff games. There will be different activities at each of the arena’s three gates – the Trib Total Media Gate, the Peoples Gate and the Verizon Gate – as well as food trucks and tents lined up along Centre Avenue.
These areas will feature DJs, refreshments, interactives, face-painters, special kids’ activities and appearances by Iceburgh and the Penguins’ Ice Crew.
