Over 6,000 Expected to Participate in Pittsburgh Penguins 6.6K Run & Family Walk

WHAT: The annual Pittsburgh Penguins 6.6K Run & Family Walk presented by CONSOL Energy will take place on Sunday, October 5. The unique 6.6K distance (4.1 miles) honors Penguins great Mario Lemieux, and proceeds from the event will benefit two worthwhile Pittsburgh charities, the cancer research and patient care initiatives of the Mario Lemieux Foundation and the youth initiatives of the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation.

WHEN: The race starts at 8:30 AM.

Please be aware that Centre Avenue between Crawford Street and Washington Place will close at 7:30 AM, and Crawford Street between Bedford Avenue and Centre Avenue will close at 7:30 AM.

WHERE: The 6.6K Run will begin and end at CONSOL Energy Center (start on Crawford Avenue and end on Centre Avenue) and run on Pittsburgh streets, over two bridges and through the Armstrong Tunnel. Additionally, a One Mile Family Walk will be offered which will circle CONSOL Energy Center.

WHO: More than 6,000 runners and walkers are participating in the race.

NOTE: The Pittsburgh Penguins will hold an open practice for all 6.6K Run and Family Walk participants and volunteers after the race at CONSOL Energy Center. Runners, one-mile walkers and volunteers will have access to the Penguins open practice by showing their race bib or volunteer shirt. Individuals must have a race bib or volunteer shirt for entry. Children five (5) and under are permitted as long as they are accompanied by a registered adult/guardian. Doors to the Trib Total Media lobby will open at 10:30 AM for the open practice.
