Penguins defenseman Olli Maatta has been named to Team Finland’s roster for the 2014 Olympics to be held next month in Sochi, Russia.

This will be Maatta’s first Olympics.

Maatta has put together a solid rookie campaign, collecting 13 points (3G-10A) and posting a plus-3 while averaging 17:38 minutes in 43 games. Maatta’s 13 points are tied for the most among Finnish blueliners with Philadelphia’s Kimmo Timonen.

Maatta played for Finland in three straight World Junior Championships from 2011-13. In the 2011 tournament, he became the first 16 year old to play for the Finns at the WJC since 1998.

During the 2011 World Under-18 Championships, Maatta collected four points (1G-3A) while being named one of Finland’s ‘Top Three Players’ by the media.
