by Staff Writer / Pittsburgh Penguins
The Pittsburgh Penguins are asking area schools to join the team in celebrating “A Great Day for Hockey” on Thursday, October 7 when they host the Philadelphia Flyers.  The game will mark the official beginning of a new era of Penguins hockey in the brand new CONSOL Energy Center as well as the start of the 2010-11 season.

The team is asking students, faculty and staff at schools throughout the region to wear Pittsburgh Penguins-themed or black and gold clothing on October 7 to show their support for the Penguins and this unique occasion.

School administrators are encouraged to submit photos and videos of their “A Great Day for Hockey” celebrations at www.pittsburghpenguins.com/greatday.

“We believe that every day is a great day for hockey; however, this year’s home opener at CONSOL Energy Center will be an especially ‘great day’ for our team, our fans and our region,” said the Penguins vice president of marketing James Santilli.  “We look forward to celebrating this historic day with the support of some of our youngest and most energetic fans.”
