It’s official – the No. 4 Pittsburgh Penguins will be facing the No. 5 Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs. This is the first-ever postseason meeting between the two teams.
The two teams finished their 2010-11 regular-season series with two home wins apiece against each other. Pittsburgh posted back-to-back victories over the Lightning, with both coming at CONSOL Energy Center. The Penguins defeated the Lightning, 5-1, on Nov. 12, and 8-1 on Jan. 5. Tampa Bay earned a 5-3 victory on Oct. 27 before closing the series with a 2-1 win on March 31, each coming at St. Pete Times Forum. Kris Letang
leads the Penguins with five assists in four games against the Lightning. Chris Kunitz
has a team-high three goals – all of which came when he notched a hat trick on Jan. 5.
Martin St. Louis leads the Lightning with three goals and five points in four games against the Penguins, while Steven Stamkos also has five points (1G-4A) in four contests versus Pittsburgh.
