New Arena Hotel Developer Honored

by Staff Writer / Pittsburgh Penguins
During the 56th annual convention of Choice Hotels International, Inc. (NYSE: CHH) in Las Vegas, Pittsburgh resident Rodney Piatt, chief executive officer of Horizon Properties Group, accepted the highly regarded Developer of the Year award. The award recognizes the best developers in the Choice Hotels system, and names one winner for each tier of core, extended stay and upscale brands.

Piatt was selected for his work with Cambria Suites. In November 2009, Horizon Hospitality, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Choice Hotels International celebrated the official groundbreaking of a 142-suite Cambria Suites hotel in Pittsburgh, Pa. The property will be located next to the new CONSOL Energy Center, and is scheduled to open in the fall.

Additionally, Horizon currently is constructing a second Cambria Suites property near the Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Washington, Pa., expected to open this summer.

Horizon Hospitality, based in western Pennsylvania, is an affiliate of Horizon Properties Group, a leading full service real estate development company that has extensive experience in commercial offices and corporate headquarters.

“The Developer of the Year award is given to the very best developers with which we work – those who show tremendous dedication, talent and excellence in hotel development,” said Kevin J. Lewis, president of upscale and extended stay brands for Choice Hotels. “Horizon is a perfect example of the kind of developers that are helping build the Cambria Suites brand.”

“We are privileged to have received this award from Choice Hotels. It recognizes the vision and efforts of our hospitality team and we are excited to be a part of the growing Cambria Suites brand. We are honored that our hard work is being recognized in this way,” said Piatt.

There are currently 20 Cambria Suites hotels open and nearly 30 under development nationwide.
