The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled goaltender Matt Murray from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.
Murray, 21, became the seventh AHL goaltender this season to reach the 20-win mark on Friday night in Portland, stopping 32 of 34 shots in a 3-2 shootout victory. Murray currently ranks third in the AHL in both goals-against average (2.10) and save percentage (.931) in 31 games.
Earlier this year, Murray made four starts for Pittsburgh, with his best performance coming in his most recent NHL appearance on Dec. 30 versus Toronto when he stopped 34 of 36 shots in a 3-2 shootout loss.
Murray is 2-1-1 with a 1.72 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage at the NHL level. He has allowed two or less goals in all four starts.
