Back-to-back shutouts to conclude last week earned Penguins netminder Marc-Andre Fleury NHL ‘Third Star’ of the week honors.
In addition to his two shutouts, Fleury was a perfect 3-0 for the Penguins, stopping 70 of the 73 shots he faced for a 1.00 goals-against average and a .959 save percentage.
Fleury’s best performance came last Thursday when he stopped a season-high 36 shots in a 3-0 defeat of the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings. It was the third-most saves Fleury has made while posting a shutout.
Two days later, Fleury made 18 saves to collect his third shutout of the year in Pittsburgh’s 5-0 win against the Buffalo Sabres.
Fleury is currently tied with Minnesota’s Darcy Kuemper for the league lead with three shutouts, and he ranks second (tied) with seven wins.
Fleury has 295 career victories, which leaves him five shy of becoming the 31st goaltender in NHL history to reach 300 wins.
