Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins will be among the finalists for two individual awards at the National Hockey League’s annual Awards Show Thursday night at the Elgin Theatre in Toronto. Television coverage on Versus begins at 7 p.m.
Malkin is one of three finalists for the Hart Trophy as Most Valuable Player (voted by the media) and for the Lester B. Pearson Award as “most outstanding player” (voted by the NHL Players Association).
Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals and Jerome Iginla of the Calgary Flames are the other two finalists for both the Hart Trophy and Lester B. Pearson Award.
It is the second consecutive season that Malkin has been a finalist at the NHL Awards. Following last season, he was awarded the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year after being named a finalist along with teammate Jordan Staal.
In addition, the NHL will present the Vezina Trophy (outstanding goaltender), Norris Trophy (best defenseman), Calder Trophy (rookie of the year), Lady Byng Trophy (sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct), Selke Trophy (best defensive forward), Jack Adams Award (outstanding coach), and Masterton Trophy (perseverance to hockey) on Thursday night.
