Malkin Suffers Injury in Penguins' Victory

by Sam Kasan / Pittsburgh Penguins
TAMPA BAY, FLORIDA – Penguins star forward Evgeni Malkin, last season’s NHL scoring champion, left Pittsburgh’s 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning in the second period with an undisclosed injury. He did not return.

“I don’t have a great feel for the severity,” head coach Dan Bylsma said. “We’re going to re-evaluate (Monday) when we get back. I have no more comment than that.”

Malkin’s injury occurred during a sequence of play in which he was hit with a shot from teammate Kris Letang, but Bylsma wasn’t sure if it was the shot that injured Malkin.

“That’s when (the injury) happened; I don’t know when it was to be honest with you,” Bylsma said. “But that’s when it happened.”
