MALKIN RECORDS AN ASSIST IN RUSSIA'S WIN OVER ITALY

Evgeni Malkin had an assist Friday to lead Russia to a 3-0 win over Italy at the IIHF World Championship in Moscow.

Malkin helped set up Ilya Kovalchuk’s goal 14:17 into the second period to gave the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Sergei Gonchar did not register a point for the Russians, who take on Switzerland on Sunday.

Colby Armstrong picked up an assist in Canada’s 6-3 triumph over Belarus.

He set up Matthew Lombardi’s goal with 3:45 to play.

Jordan Staal did not record a point for Canada, which meets the Czech Republic on Sunday.

Jarkko Ruutu went scoreless in Finland’s 2-0 win over Switzerland on Thursday. Finland takes on Italy on Saturday.
