The Pittsburgh-area players played a huge role in leading Team USA to the gold at the 2013 World Junior Championship in Ufa, Russia.

Local products John Gibson, J.T. Miller, Vince Trocheck and Riley Barber helped the U.S. defeat defending champion Sweden, 3-1, in the tournament's gold medal game on Saturday. Trocheck scored an empty-net goal late in the third period to ice the victory and added an assist in the contest. Overall, Trocheck netted six points (3G-3A) in the tournament.

Gibson, who started all seven of Team USA’s games, was named tournament MVP, best goalie and goalie for the media all-star team as he finished with a .955 save percentage and 1.36 goals-against average.

Gibson’s .955 save percentage is the new record for a U.S. goaltender in this tournament, surpassing the previous high of .944 set by Al Montoya in 2004.

Miller served as an alternate captain for the U.S. and played a crucial role on the team’s top line, centering Jim Vesey and John Gaudreau. Miller finished the tournament with nine points (2G-7A) in seven contests, including an assist on Trocheck's goal on Saturday.

Barber finished with six points (3G-3A) in the tournament.
