USA Hockey is continuing their amazing international season with a strong showing at the 2010 International Ice Hockey Federation World Men's Under-18 Championship. The U.S. National Men’s Under-18 Team completed round robin play with a 2-1 record following a 5-0 blanking of Team Canada on Friday afternoon in Bobruisk, Belarus.
Among the top performers for Team USA are a pair of local products, forward Brandon Saad (Gibsonia, Pa.) and defenseman Stephen Johns (Wampum, Pa.).
Johns, who is rated as a first or second round draft pick in this June’s National Hockey League Entry Draft by most major scouting services, has picked up one assist and eight penalty minutes in three contests.
Saad, one of the American’s top forwards, has notched a goal and an assist in three games. He had an assist on Team USA’s opening goal against the Canadians. Saad is rated as one of the top prospects for the 2011 draft.
Team USA begins quarterfinal play at noon on Sunday when they take on Belarus at Bobruisk Arena.
