Veteran NHL broadcaster Steve Kolbe will host a daily two-hour edition of “Penguins Live” on Penguins Radio 24/7, starting on September 30.
Penguins Radio 24/7 is a full-time digital radio station dedicated to non-stop coverage of the Pens. It is available to fans on their computers and smartphones, via the Penguins Mobile app and at 105.9 FM, HD-2.
Kolbe, who was the radio play-by-play voice of the Washington Capitals for 14 seasons, will provide news and commentary and interview a wide range of guests Monday to Friday from 3-5 p.m.
Local hockey blogger Brian Metzer will host “Penguins Live” during the 5-6 p.m. hour.
The weekday programming from 3-6 p.m. also will be simulcast on the newest Penguins Radio 24/7 affiliate, Trib Live Radio, the local online-only station operated by Trib Total Media.
In addition to his regular hosting duties, Kolbe will serve as co-host during the 2-3 p.m. hour with Mark Madden of the Penguins’ flagship radio station, 105.9 The X.
Weekend programming on Penguins Radio 24/7 will include “PensWeek” on Saturdays from 9-10 a.m. co-hosted by Paul Steigerwald and Pens historian Bob Grove.
Hall of Fame play-by-play announcer Mike Lange is back for his 39th season as Voice of the Penguins and will call all 82 regular season games on 105.9 The X and the Penguins Radio Network. Lange will be joined by analyst Phil Bourque, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, who is back for his 11th season.
Grove will again anchor pre-game, intermission and post-game coverage.
All six Penguins preseason games will be carried on 105.9 The X and Penguins Radio 24/7. Lange will handle play-by-play for two of the preseason games – September 16 vs. Detroit and September 23 vs. Chicago. Kolbe will call the other four.
