STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- Tyler Kennedy
will move to right wing on a line with Evgeni Malkin
and Jordan Staal
when the Penguins open the regular season today against the Ottawa Senators at Globe Arena.
Coach Michel Therrien announced the move after the morning skate. Petr Sykora, who normally patrols the right side on that line, is sidelined by a sore groin and is expected to miss both games this weekend.
“Tyler had an outstanding training camp, and he brings a lot of quickness and energy to our club,” Therrien said. “We’re very comfortable using him on that line.”
The Penguins will dress 12 forwards and six defensemen. Therrien said that veteran defenseman Darryl Sydor will play the opener, and rookie Alex Goligoski will be a healthy scratch.
“We have a lot of respect for Darryl Sydor and he’ll be part of our group to start the season,” Therrien said. “He’s a guy who plays a leadership role on our team. Alex Goligoski is a young defenseman and we like what we’ve seen …. maybe he’ll play (Sunday).
Game time is listed at 2:30 p.m. Pittsburgh time (8:30 Stockholm time). However, the opening faceoff is scheduled for 2:54 p.m. Pittsburgh time.
