by Staff Writer / Pittsburgh Penguins

Kasperi Kapanen, the Penguins’ first-round (22nd overall) selection in June’s NHL Draft, will miss Pittsburgh’s rookie tournament this weekend due to an injury he suffered earlier this summer. Kapanen should be ready for the start of Pittsburgh’s NHL training camp next weekend.

Another Penguins prospect, forward Jaden Lindo, Pittsburgh’s sixth-round (173rd overall) pick in June, will also miss the rookie tournament as he continues his recovery from a February knee injury.

The Penguins begin the 2014 rookie tournament in London, Ontario on Saturday, Sept. 13 against the Ottawa Senators at 2 p.m. at Budweiser Gardens.

Pittsburgh plays the following afternoon at 2 p.m. versus Chicago; and in the final game of the tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 16, the Penguins face the host Toronto Maple Leafs at 2 p.m.

WBS head coach John Hynes and assistant coach Alain Nasreddine will oversee the tournament. The two have led the WBS Penguins to back-to-back AHL Eastern Conference Finals appearances.
