9:58 PM EST:
Locker room time...Blog out.
9:47 PM EST:
Pittsburgh is 0 for 3 on the season in the Big Mac Attack. For shame Penguins
9:43 PM EST:
Mac Attack time! Two minutes to get a goal and everyone wins a free Big Mac. Get there Pens!
9:42 PM EST:
The Penguins just blew a three-goal lead when Nylander scored on a pretty set-up from Fleischmann. This is the second game in a row that Pittsburgh has blown a multi-goal lead. 9:33 left in the game. Please don't tell me we're going to a third straight overtime. Pens 3, Caps 3.
9:37 PM EST:
Ovechkin's is dying to get that third goal. He just cherry-picked his entire last shift. The Penguins seem to be on their heels. They need to start taking the play to the Capitals now. The commercial break may help them sort themselves out.
9:31 PM EST:
The Capitals seemed determined to get a goal. THe first four minutes of the period were spent in the Penguins zone. Alexander Semin scored his fourth goal of the season off of the season off a faceoff win by Nylander. Pens 3, Caps 2.
9:09 PM EST:
PIttsburgh put up the richter-scale thingy on the Jumbotron to measure the decibels of the crowd's cheering. My question is who operates that and how do they judge it? We'll have to take into account human error into the results. Unless it is machine operated. In which case, how accurate is it really? I need to know these things. By the way, a hockey game is going on. 3-1 Pens after two.
9:02 PM EST:
Penguins announced an attendence of 17,030. The 70th consecutive sellout.
8:58 PM EST:
How embarrassing is it when your at a game with a girl and they put you on the Jumbotron for Kisscam. This guy obviously was hoping to get a smooch and she clearly wanted no parts of it. They both looked embarrassed. He definitely got himself stuck in the dreaded friends zone. Awkward.
8:57 PM EST:
Ovechkin is visibly upset now. He's yelling and throwing body checks like crazy. He's getting into everyone's face. The Penguins and Capitals are starting to develop a healthy dislike of each other. Malkin and Ovechkin continue their hated rivalry with a few more shots at each other. So far, Malkin is up three points (1G-2A) to Ovechkin's zero.
8:54 PM EST:
Things are starting to get testy. First Ovechkin and Malkin threw a few body shots into each other. Then Ovechkin and Hal Gill traded checks. The sequence was concluded with Malkin getting a boarding penalty for taking out Alexander Semin.
8:45 PM EST:
Pittsburgh is outshooting Washington, 17-6, FYI.
8:41 PM EST:
Caps Tomas Leischmann scored his first goal fo the season to get the Caps. on the board. Moments later Paul Bissonnette slugged it out with Matt Bradley. Bradley got the worst of the fight, taking several head blows but landing none. He also had to go to the locker room because he was cut and bleeding, much to the delight of Penguins fans. Pens 3, Caps 1.
8:33 PM EST:
Satan knocks in his second power play goal of the season on a 5-on-3 advantage. It's the third power-play goal of the night for the Penguins and gives PIttsburgh a 3-0 lead early in the second period. Remember when the buzz was that the Penguins couldn't score goals and their power play was paltry? Guess that's over. Pens 3, Caps 0.
8:15 PM EST: Evgeni Malkin
scored his second goal of the season on the power play. Crosby set up the play with a pass from behind the net. Malkin's shot was deflected and trickled through Theodore's five hole. Assists go to Crosby and Satan. Crosby now has two assists in the game, guess that scoring drought is over. That is also Satan's 350th career assist. A too-many-men-on-the-ice penalty will have Washington short-handed to start the second period. Pens 2, Caps 0.
8:08 PM EST:
Pittsburgh is outshooting Washington, 7-4 with 1:43 left in the first. Shaone Morrisonn took another penalty in the game. Penguins power play.
8:00 PM EST:
Alex Goligoski scored his second power play goal of the season. He fumbled a bouncing puck in the slot and sent a bad angle shot that at the net. Jose Theodore, caught off guard, couldn't stop the puck from squeezing between his pads. Give assists to Malkin and Crosby. The goal comes at 12:58 of the first. Pens 1, Caps 0.
7:57 PM EST:
So far Washington has controlled the play, logging a lot of ice time in the Penguins zone. The Capitals have looked sharp, making hard passes and getting in good position for opportunities. Alexander Semin just took a penalty, he go to the box, and he feel shame.
7:46 PM EST:
Eaton has been repaired with Alex Goligoski. Penguins survive a penalty kill. Credit Staal, Talbot, Scuderi and Gill for a long, tiring shift.
7:42 PM EST:
Crosby had two great opportunities in the first minute. I think Sid gets 100 tonight.
7:40 PM EST:
The Pens switched up their defensive pairings, starting the game with Brooks Orpik
and Mark Eaton together.
7:37 PM EST:
Jeff Jimmerson is a rock star. Seriously...does any other National Anthem singer get an ovation the way the Penguins fans belt it out for him? Althougth it would be nice if we had, say, Christina Aguilera sing once this season. I'm just saying...7:28 PM EST:
The scratches for Thursday's game against Washington are in. I know you've been patiently waiting. For Pittsburgh: forwards Matt Cooke
and Bill Thomas, and defenseman Darryl Sydor. Paul Bissonnette will be in the lineup tonight and skate on the fourth line with Eric Godard and Mike Zigomanis. Washington scratches: forwards Victor Kozlov and Donald Brashear.
