Hurricanes Upend Penguins, 4-1

RALEIGH, N.C.Carolina held off the Penguins for a 4-1 win Friday night.

Eric Staal slapped in a rebound 7:08 into the game to give Carolina a 1-0 lead. 

Staal found the back of the net again with 6:39 left in the period when his backhander deflected off Brooks Orpik’s skate and caromed into the net for a 2-0 advantage.

Andrew Ladd poked in a puck during a scrum in front of the net to give the Hurricanes a 3-0 lead with 5:49 left in the second. 

Jeff Hamilton’s slap-shot deflected past Marc-Andre Fleury with 2:25 left on the clock for a 4-0 advantage.

Mark Recchi tallied a power-play goal with 3:23 left in the contest to trim the Penguins’ deficit to 4-1.
