Penguins center Evgeni Malkin has a fun-loving, goofy, almost child-like personality, and we get glimpses of it through his social media presence with the priceless pictures he posts on Instagram and Twitter, and the shenanigans he occasionally pulls off the ice (James Neal videobombs, anyone?)
Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin has held a powerful position in the Russian government since 2000 (serving two stints as President, including one currently, and one as Prime Minister). He is widely known for his blank facial expressions and serious demeanor.
That all being said, a photo of the two of them – taken after Russia won the 2014 World Championship – could only end up like this:
Just incredible. That is absolutely the G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time) of Malkin photos. He's posted a ton of hilarious pictures on social media throughout the years (we posted a list of his 10 best last summer
), but nothing even comes CLOSE to this one.
However, this isn't the first time Malkin has let his personality shine through when meeting a world leader. Fast forward to the 5:30 mark of the below video...
There's just so much to love about that sequence, starting with how all of Malkin's teammates can tell he's up to no good – look at Jordan Staal and Brooks Orpik laughing on either side of him and Marc-Andre Fleury looking up and shaking his head smiling. After Malkin raises his arm in acknowledgment when President Barack Obama recognizes him for being playoff MVP, he tries to sneak out his flip phone to snap a paparazzi photo of the most powerful man in the free world – only to get totally busted. But that didn't stop 'Geno' from trying a second time, much to the delight of everyone in attendance.
