Josh Getzoff has joined the Pittsburgh Penguins as host of the team’s pre-game and post-game radio shows, it was announced today by Terry Kalna, the Penguins’ senior vice president of sales and broadcasting.
In his new full-time role, Getzoff also will work as a PensTV reporter; will provide intermission updates on the video board during Penguins’ home games at CONSOL Energy Center; and will host the PensWeek radio show every Saturday morning on the team’s flagship station, 105.9 The X.
Getzoff, 27, has spent the past two years with WICD/WCCU-TV, an ABC and FOX affiliate in Champaign, IL, serving as sports anchor/reporter and sports director. Before that he worked two years as a sports anchor/reporter at WENY-TV in Horseheads, NY and served as a production assistant/runner for NBC at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.
“Josh is a bright young talent who will be a tremendous addition to our radio and in-house broadcast operation,” Kalna said. “He is a lifelong hockey fan and rink rat who played club hockey and inline hockey at Ithaca College. He’s built a strong foundation for his career with his work as a TV sports anchor and reporter and has already done award-winning work at a young age. We are pleased to welcome him to the Penguins as the latest full-time member of our staff.”
Getzoff was named Best TV Sportscaster in 2015 by the Illinois Broadcasters’ Association and received two Best Sports Coverage awards – one from the Illinois Associated Press in 2013 and another from the New York State Associated Press Broadcaster’s Association in 2012.
He attended the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College, graduating in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in Television-Radio and a minor in Sports Studies.
Getzoff will host revamped versions of the “Penguins Live: PREGAME” and “Penguins Live: POSTGAME” radio shows for all 82 regular season games and playoffs on 105.9 The X and the Penguins Radio Network. He will be joined by alternating co-hosts Sam Kasan and Michelle Crechiolo of Pens Inside Scoop and www.pittsburghpenguins.com. Kasan and Crechiolo will handle radio intermission duties at home games while Getzoff is providing live updates for fans in attendance on CONSOL Energy Center’s video board.
Former Penguin Colby Armstrong will also make periodic guest appearances on pre- and post-game radio during the season.
The first edition of the PensWeek radio show for the 2015-16 season will air Saturday at 9 a.m. on 105.9 the X. Getzoff will be joined by PensWeek co-hosts Brian Metzer and Paul Steigerwald.
He also will be a regular contributor to PensTV and assist with the team’s community events.
