How the Pens Acquired him: Drafted in the 4th round (113th overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft

Next Step: Lafferty will play for Tri-City of the United States Hockey League (USHL) next season and will play collegiate hockey for Brown University of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) in 2015-16.

Local Product: Grew up in Hollidaysburg, Pa., which is about an hour and 45 minutes outside of Pittsburgh. He played youth hockey for the Altoona Trackers of the Pittsburgh Amateur Hockey League (PAHL), grew up rooting for the Pens and his favorite player was Sidney Crosby.

2013-14 Season: Lafferty had a career-best 21 goals, 34 assists and 55 points in 25 games with Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Mass. He was named to the 2014 Prep School All-New England team.

Numbers Never Lie: In 3 seasons with Deerfield Academy, Lafferty tallied 38 goals and 57 assists for a total of 95 points in 74 contests.

Lafferty on his first and favorite moments as a Pens fan and his favorite players: “Starting out just watching the Penguins in the playoffs when I was a little kid, and then when they won the Cup in ’09 was pretty huge for this area. Growing up, definitely Crosby was one of my idols and right now I would say Brandon Sutter’s a guy that I definitely try to emulate.”
