Born and raised in nearby Butler, Pa., Hildebrand played amateur hockey for the Pittsburgh Hornets Midget Travel Team. His favorite NHL player is Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury.
Hildebrand started a career-high 32 games, winning nine, as a sophomore with Michigan State. He was named MSU’s Team MVP for the second consecutive season and was a four-time recipient of the Big Ten “Star of the Week” award. On Jan. 17, he equaled his career high by making 48 saves in a shutout against Penn State.Numbers Never Lie:
He has already played in 61 career collegiate games in two years at Michigan State, posting an 18-32-9 record, 2.40 goals-against average, .926 save percentage and four shutouts. Accomplishments:
In 2012-13, he became the second player in school history to win Team MVP and Rookie of the Year in the same season. Hildebrand also received honorable mention All-CCHA Rookie Team member, when he allowed two or fewer goals in 17 of his 28 starts.
