Game-Winning Goal Changed from Staal to Malkin

by Staff Writer / Pittsburgh Penguins
Evgeni Malkin has been credited with the game-winning goal in the Penguins’ 5-4 overtime victory over the New York Rangers Thursday night at Madison Square Garden.

The goal was originally credited to Jordan Staal.

Staal approached members of the Penguin’ communications staff after the game to say he did not touch the puck and should not have been awarded the goal. After reviewing video, the NHL agreed and has officially credited the goal to Malkin.

The correct scoring on the play is: Goal by Malkin, with assists to Sergei Gonchar and Staal.
