FSN, the exclusive rights holder to Pittsburgh Penguins regional hockey game telecasts, announced today it will telecast a minimum of 71 contests in the 2008-09 regular season. Coverage on FSN begins with the season opening series in Stockholm, Sweden on Sat., Oct. 4 and Sun., Oct. 5. Both games will be against the Ottawa Senators and will be LIVE in high definition at 2:54 PM ET. Coverage will begin at 2:00 PM ET with LIVE Penguins Pre-game shows hosted by Rob King and former Penguin Jay Caufield.
“Our viewers are craving more HD,” said FSN Senior Vice President & General Manager Ted Black. “This season we will produce 36% more Penguin games than last season in high definition.”
All 82 of the Penguins NHL games will be televised with a minimum 71 games regionally on FSN Pittsburgh. Versus plans to carry seven games nationally. In addition, the Penguins can be selected for up to four regular season games on NBC. The NHL will offer flexible scheduling again this season for NBC.
FSN has a record 49 games slated in High Definition this season, including every game on FSN in October. Currently, high definition is available on Armstrong channel 179, Atlantic Broadband 782, Comcast 226/774, Citizen 737, DISH 428 and DirecTV 628.
