Free Events Scheduled for Fans as NCAA Frozen Four Comes to Pittsburgh

by Staff Writer / Pittsburgh Penguins
Open practices and a free public skating session at CONSOL Energy Center are among the special events available to fans when the NCAA Frozen Four comes to Pittsburgh for the first time next week.

A limited number of tickets for the national championship game (Saturday, April 13) are available, and the NCAA and the local organizing committee have created many other free events so that the general public can enjoy the excitement of Frozen Four festivities.

These include open practice sessions for the Frozen Four teams at CONSOL Energy Center on Wednesday and Friday, an open skate for the general public on Friday night, and a special “Frozen Fest” before each game in the Centre Avenue parking lot directly across from CONSOL Energy Center. “Frozen Fest” will include live entertainment, sports activities and product displays, championship merchandise and more – all family-friendly fun.

Members of the teams that reach the championship game will be signing autographs on the concourse of CONSOL Energy Center on Friday from 4:30 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. The Hobey Baker Award, which goes to the top player in college hockey, will be presented at 6 p.m.

The Friday evening public skate will be held from 7:30-9:30 p.m. There will be four 30-minute sessions on a first come-first served basis. Bauer will provide skates for free. Fans also may bring their own skates.

There also will be red-carpet arrivals of the participating teams on game days at the Trib Total Media gate.

Yale, UMass Lowell, St. Cloud State and Quinnipiac are the teams that have reached the 2013 Frozen Four.
