While the Penguins were away, fans got the chance to play - at Rivers Casino.
As a part of weeklong events leading up to Saturday's Stadium Series matchup, the Penguins hosted a free viewing party for Tuesday's matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes.
The event allowed fans (21 and older) to eat, drink and watch the game on the big screen at the Wheelhouse inside the casino and fans thought it was wonderful.
"This is cool!" Jonathan Dulemba exclaimed. "We went to the Winter Classic back in '08. It is so cool that they are doing so much more for it now with the casino things and museum bus. It is great for the city and great for the NHL."
During the game, Penguins mascot Iceburgh made his casino debut as the special guest for the evening. To no one's surprise, he made quite the entrance by popping into the viewing party right before the game and got a round of applause.
While Iceburgh got some attention, most of the hype was centered around the raffles that gave fans opportunities to win Stadium Series giveaways such as autographed pucks, hats and tickets to the outdoor game itself.
One fan, Hedlund Gennert thoroughly enjoyed her time at the viewing part and just being in Pittsburgh. She came from overseas, was decked out in a Carl Hagelin shirt and was the raffle winner of an autographed Hagelin puck.
"I love this," Gennert said. "I am from Sweden. We are here visiting for fun. I am a huge Penguin fan. We are here supporting us Swedes and we are going to the game on Saturday."
Alas, the Penguins were able to come out with a win 3-1 win over the Hurricanes, but by the end of the event many fans went home winners too.
