Fans Attend Mario Lemieux Fantasy Hockey Camp

by Staff Writer / Pittsburgh Penguins

Fans flocked to CONSOL Energy Center Saturday afternoon to watch the Penguins. But it wasn’t the current Penguins they came to see.

Mario Lemieux laced up the skates along with other former greats Paul Coffey, Mark Recchi, Bill Guerin, Rick Tocchet, Gary Roberts, Jay Caufield, Theo Fleury, Tie Domi, Brian Trottier and more as part of the Mario Lemieux Fantasy Hockey Camp. (See photo gallery of the Fantasy Camp here.)

Fans paid $15 for the event, with all the proceeds being contributed to the Mario Lemieux Foundation, an organization that raises funds for cancer research and patient care.

The Mario Lemieux Fantasy Hockey Camp, which is hosted by the Lemieux Foundation, consisted of 66 paid camp participants who played in a round-robin tournament. Each team had two celebrity captains and a celebrity coach, with Lemieux spending time playing on each of the four teams.
