Penguins prospect Simon Despres was one of 39 players invited to participate in Team Canada’s final selection camp leading up to the 2011 World Junior Championships to be held Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in Buffalo, N.Y. The camp will be held Dec. 11-15 at the MasterCard Centre in suburban Toronto.
The 19-year-old defenseman was originally drafted by the Penguins in the first round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft (30th overall).
Despres, who is currently playing for the Saint John Sea Dogs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), has 19 points (5G-14A) and a plus-19 rating through 16 games. He was one of the Penguins’ final roster cuts during training camp.
