GLENDALE – The Penguins enjoyed another offensive explosion Saturday night against the Coyotes.
Sidney Crosby led the way with four more points in the Penguins’ 7-2 romp in Phoenix.
Ryan Malone ripped a shot off the post and past Mikael Tellqvist 24 seconds into the contest. Crosby set up the goal with a diving assist from behind the net. Mark Recchi added the other helper.
Shane Doan tied the game with a power-play goal with 8:24 left.
Maxime Talbot found the back of the net with 6:28 remaining in the first period. Sergei Gonchar and Recchi assisted on the play.
Steve Reinpricht banged in a rebound to knot the game at 2-all with 9:23 left in the second.
Ryan Whitney tallied a power-play goal with 6:44 on the clock when he pushed a one-timer Tellqvist for a 3-2 lead. Crosby and Gonchar assisted on the play.
Jarkko Ruutu tallied with 2:23 on the clock to give the Penguins a 4-2 lead. On a 2-on-1 with Dominic Moore, he slid the puck into the net for the goal. Ronald Petrovicky had the assist.
Crosby scored a power-play goal to make it 5-2 just 4:48 into the third period. Falling backward while in front of the crease, he backhanded the puck into the net. Recchi and Whitney assisted on the play.
Petrovicky scored his first goal in a Penguins uniform 15 seconds later. Moore’s shot banged off the post right to Petrovicky, who slid it into the goal. Ruutu added an assist.
Recchi scored a power-play goal with 7:44 to go for a 7-2 lead. Crosby fed a short pass to Malone in front of the net and Malone chipped it on net. Recchi knocked down the rebound and slapped it into the goal.
