Crosby Wins Conn Smythe Trophy

by Staff Writer / Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy, given to the MVP of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, following a 3-1 win against the San Jose Sharks in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final at SAP Center on Sunday.

It is the first time Crosby, who had six goals and 13 assists in the 2016 playoffs, has won the award. Evgeni Malkin was the Conn Smythe winner in 2009 when Pittsburgh had last won the Stanley Cup.

Crosby is the first captain and center to win the award since Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010.
