The National Hockey League announced today that Pittsburgh Penguins Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin will represent the Eastern Conference in the starting lineup of the 2009 XM NHL All-Star game presented by 2K Sports on Jan. 25 in Montreal.

Sidney Crosby led all vote-getters for the third consecutive year with 1,713,021votes, the most in the history of NHL All-Star fan balloting.  Crosby’s teammate and current NHL scoring leader, Evgeni Malkin was second in votes, receiving 1,585,936.  Crosby and Malkin surpassed Jaromir Jagr’s all-time record of 1,020,736 votes set in 2000 for one year of NHL All-Star fan balloting.

Crosby will be playing in his second NHL All-Star game after missing last year due to injury.  Malkin represented the Eastern Conference in last year’s All-Star Game in Atlanta and appeared in the NHL YoungStars Game in 2007.

The 2009 NHL All-Star Weekend in Montreal will feature live national broadcasts of the NHL SuperSkills event on Saturday, Jan. 24 and the NHL All-Star Game on Sunday, Jan. 25 on VERSUS in the United States and CBC and RDS in Canada.
