Penguins centers Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin completed round-robin play at the 2015 World Championship on Tuesday afternoon.
Crosby did not dress for Team Canada's final game, a 10-1 win over Austria that improved them to a perfect 7-0 in group play. He finished with three goals and seven points in six games.
Canucks defenseman Dan Hamhuis took Crosby's place as captain for the evening.
"It’s an honor, for sure," Hamhuis told the IIHF's official website of filling in for Crosby. "I mean, it’s an honor first of all to put this jersey on and represent the country. I’ve had some big shoes to fill for Sid, but we’re hoping he’s back next game."
Canada will play Belarus in the quarterfinals in Prague.
Malkin recorded an assist in Russia's 3-2 overtime loss to Finland on Tuesday to give him five points (1G-4A) in his last four games of group play. Malkin appeared in six total contests after sitting out Russia's first game.
The defending champions finished 5-1-1 in the round-robin portion and will play Sweden in the quarterfinals.
